Chatterbox

Free Speech and Language drop in group for parents and children under 5
The development and use of speech, language and communication are at the heart of young children’s learning. Children require good communication skills to make friends, to participate in group activities, to develop higher-level thinking skills and much teaching is delivered verbally. Children’s later achievements are dependent on their ability to communicate effectively. It is vitally important to ensure that we do everything that we can to help all children to become skilful and confident communicators.
In order to progress to become competent readers and writers, children need to have developed good speech, language and communication skills. They need to be able to understand – to comprehend – language, as well as developing the skills to use language to express themselves. Children need to have well developed vocabularies, with a real depth of understanding of the meanings of words. Parents and carers can help their children develop language skills through everyday activities.
Chatterbox is run by children’s centre staff. The group welcomes any parent who would like support and advice regarding their children’s communication skills. There will be activities for children focussing on speech and language and an opportunity for parents to speak to the staff about any concerns. Parents can be signposted to local sessions to see a Speech and Language Therapist if needed.
Term time only, no need to book. Free session
